Potentate El Karubah 2012

I hope you find the site informative, and a convenient way to keep up with the goings on at El Karubah.  In addition to our Temple in Shreveport, we have clubs in Alexandria, Leesville, Natchitoches, and Many.  So, wherever you may be in this part of the state, El Karubah Shrine is near you, and is here to serve you, and the kids that need our services.

It is my great honor to serve as Potentate of El Karubah Shriners.  It is most satisfying to belong to El Karubah knowing that Shreveport is the home of the 1st Shriners Hospital.  Shriners International is known by many as the World’s Greatest Philanthropy with good reason. We operate 22 Shrine Hospitals for Children.

Shriners Hospitals for Children began in 1922 in Shreveport.  At the time Polio was rampant, and Shriners sought a way to treat the children of this dreaded, crippling disease.  Polio has since been eradicated, but Shriners Hospitals have continued to treat children with orthopedic problems.

A few years ago, Shriners Hospitals identified another urgent need, and that was the treatment of severe burns.  Since Shriners have been treating burn victims, their chances of survival have at least doubled.  Among the many discoveries that Shriners Doctors have made and perfected, through our aggressive research, is the artificial skin used in the burn centers of the world.  We save lives every day in our Burn Centers.

Other fields that Shriners Hospitals are involved in is the treatment of injuries to the spine, and facial reconstruction due to cleft lip and palette.  Many young people walk today, due to the work done in our spinal treatment facilities, and our orthopedic centers.  Many are able to enjoy a happier, and more confident life due to our clef lip and palette programs.

All treatment received by “our kids” is provided without cost to the patient.  This includes transportation to and from the hospital.  The only qualification needed to be a patient in one our hospitals, is to be under the age of 18 years, and have a condition that we can improve.  There is no requirement to be related to, or to even know a Shriner.

Who wouldn’t want to be a part of an organization that does what Shriners do for “our kids”?  We continually seek new members, and invite you to either ask any Shriner, or visit www.beashrinernow.com to learn how to become one of us.

Ladies and Gentlemen we spend, on average, over 1.67 million dollars every day, 365 days a year, to keep our hospital systems operating. That's a lot of dollars! So when you see a Shriner giving his own time, working or selling some little something, think about the Shriners Hospitals and what it has taken to establish them - Shriners devoting their own time and the public supporting them for it! I would also like to thank our Shriner Ladies and the support they provide us in everything we do.
