Welcome to El Karubah

Our fraternity known as Shriners International was formed in 1870 by a group of Masons who gathered for lunch frequently at the Knickerbocker Cottage in New York City. This lead to the forming of a fraternity based on fun and fellowship. The newly formed fraternity believed in helping others with charity and community service. In the early years Shriners assisted with clean up aid after national disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and fires.

El Karubah was chartered on May 14, 1914. In 1922 the members of El Karubah were instrumental in starting and building the first Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Shreveport Louisiana. Since then Shriners Hospital for Children has grown into a network of 22 hospitals in North America, along with clinics abroad. As Shriners, we refer to this as the “World’s Greatest Philanthropy”. Our hospitals treat a wide range of orthopedic and burn conditions. To date, we have treated over a million patients. Shriner’s health services are provided free of charge to children eighteen years of age or younger, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.

We are located at 6230 S. Lakeshore Drive in Shreveport, Louisiana, with a gorgeous view of Cross Lake. We have ample parking, playground area for children, and a pier to fish or enjoy the view. We are a fraternity of Master Masons who want to have fun and help children. Our stated meeting date is the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. The temple is also available for rentals for weddings, dances, and parties. If you would like more information on renting our facility, please call our office at 318-631-1594.

Many of our functions are geared for the entire family, and we feel you will see several that you would like to be a part of.
